Mezzacapo Palace

Descending towards the heart of Maiori, Palazzo Mezzacapo stands out for its refined elegance. Once the home of the Mezzacapo marquises, it now houses the Municipal Library and the Historical Archives, guardians of the knowledge and memory of the city.

The elegant reception hall of Palazzo Mezzacapo is decorated with frescoes painted around 1784, commissioned on the occasion of the wedding of the Pepoli and Mezzacapo families. The nuptial allegory, full of symbols of wealth, celebrates the union of the two noble families.

Outside, the gardens are organized in a striking Maltese cross, in honor of the military and hospitality order to which several members of the family belonged. At one time, the gardens were the main system for collecting and utilizing the water from the Reginna River. Walking through the deep pools and fountains, you can see submerged arches and columns that recall the ancient structure of the palace, creating an atmosphere of awe and wonder.
