The Emerald Grotto

It is said that in ancient times the waters of Conca dei Marini hid a secret cave. Many ventured in search of this place, attracted by stories of indescribable beauty. But the cave seemed to be only a mirage, a dream lost in the crystal-clear waters. It was not until 1932 that the fisherman Luigi Buonocore, during a quiet boat trip, brought this sublime wonder to light. Known all over the world, the Emerald Grotto is a small karstic cavity partially submerged by the sea. When the sun's rays filter through a hidden crevice, the light takes on heavenly hues, coloring the rocks with a thousand crystalline reflections. The name “Emerald Cave” comes from these magnificent iridescent reflections, which transform the water into a palette of intense greens and deep blues.

Inside the cave, stalactite and stalagmite formations enrich the panorama with their extraordinary shapes and play of light. Another masterpiece, although a product of human ingenuity and not of nature, is the strange underwater crib that has been lying four meters below the surface since 1956. This artistic creation, made of Vietri ceramics, is clearly visible thanks to the transparency of the crystal-clear water and has become the symbol of the place. Every Christmas, a group of divers from all over Italy dive there to deposit votive symbols, keeping alive a tradition that combines art and devotion.

The Emerald Grotto is an enchanting place, a destination to be discovered, a corner of underwater paradise.
