Marina di Vietri
Vietri is the only town on the Amalfi Coast that has been urbanized on two different levels. The higher part, where we find the historical center, contrasts with the splendid Marina di Vietri, which can be reached by a steep and characteristic descent. Strolling along the shore, we are enveloped by the scent of the sea and the sweet fragrance of wisteria and jasmine.
Crestarella Tower
Perched on a rocky promontory, the Torre Crestarella silently watches over the sea, separating the beach of the same name from Marina di Vietri. Built in the 16th century to defend the territory from Saracen incursions, it was part of a vast network of defensive structures that once guarded the coast. Its position offers an enchanting view of the two chimneys known as “I Due Fratelli” (The Two Brothers).
The Two Brothers
The view from the Crestarella Tower offers a privileged angle from which to admire two striking stacks in the middle of the sea, known as “I Due Fratelli” (The Two Brothers), precisely because they are identical. One of the most famous local legends tells of two shepherd brothers who were enchanted by the beauty of a young girl sleeping in the middle of the sea. When a storm suddenly broke, the two young men dived in to save her, but were swept away by the waves and drowned. The girl was the daughter of Poseidon, King of the Sea, who admired their courage and transformed their remains into the two stacks.
