The Heart of Vietri and its Ceramics
The city, inhabited since the time of ancient Marcina, fascinates visitors with its majolica domes, such as that of the Church of St. John the Baptist.
The production of ceramics dates back to at least the 14th century, but it was not until the 16th and 17th centuries that it became established with household utensils and decorated religious objects. Vietri became a crossroads of maritime trade and in the 20th century attracted internationally renowned artists and craftsmen, including Germans who introduced new colors, such as the famous "Vietri yellow".
Today, artisan workshops enliven the streets of the center with lively and creative ceramics: tiles, plates, vases, knickknacks, and the famous ceramic donkeys, symbol of the city. The ceramics of Vietri continue to renew themselves, combining tradition and modernity with a unique and recognizable style.
