Church of SS Annunziata
The Church of the Santissima Annunziata is a precious example of Romanesque architecture. Founded in the 9th century, it is considered the oldest church in Scala. It welcomes us with an ancient portico that was once the meeting place of the city parliament. Inside, three naves divided by six columns on each side support majestic round arches. From the right nave, a passage leads to the rectangular crypt, whose precious medieval frescoes were discovered by the historian Salazar in the 19th century.
Situated on a hill, the church offers an enchanting view: in front, the marvels of Ravello; below, Amalfi, Atrani and, in the distance, the deep blue of the sea. Further down, the hamlet of Pontone and the ruins of the church of Sant'Eustachio stand out in the landscape, silent witnesses of a past that still breathes.
