Ziro Tower
From the hamlet of Pontone, the path to the Ziro Tower is one of the most suggestive in the Scala area. Its circular shape rises silently against the hilly panorama.
It is said that the tower served as a prison for Giovanna of Aragon, whose tragic story was told by Matteo Bandello and later inspired two masterpieces of theater: “The Tragedy of the Duchess of Amalfi” by John Webster and “The Butler of the Duchess of Amalfi” by the Spaniard Lope de Vega.
