The streets of Praiano

The village of Praiano unfolds in a fascinating tangle of narrow streets and stairways, where the continuous ups and downs between Vettica, the lower part, and Praiano, the upper part, reflect the typical “vertical distinction” of the Divine Coast. Walking through the alleys, you can admire the numerous votive aedicules, small majolica chapels that tell stories of faith and devotion, silent witnesses of the spirituality of these people who, over the centuries, have asked for protection for their families and their homes.

The art of majolica, with its vivid and intense colors, not only adorns these aedicules, but also decorates house signs and church domes, giving a touch of timeless beauty that reflects the soul of the place. The oldest votive aedicules date back to the 18th century, including the votive aedicule of Our Lady of Sorrows, painted on slate.
